Next Annual Tour Date Set

Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site
1825 Battlefield Road, Perryville, Kentucky 40468
Saturday May 21st - 9:00 a.m.

Come spend a day at the most pristine battlefield in the United States! Hosts Chuck Lott and Darryl Smith will guide you on the battlefield of Perryville, fought in October, 1862, that concluded Braxton Bragg's Kentucky Campaign. Two sessions will cover most of the battle.

Starting at 9:00 a.m. we will cover Frank Cheatham's divisional attack against the mostly green Federals on the Union left flank, then break for lunch around noon. (bring your own as the area does not have any restaurants close by) Spend the afternoon walking the ground of Simon Buckner's and Patton Anderson's attacks against the heights held by such heroes as Leonard Harris and William Lytle.

There will be an evening gathering at a restaurant in Danville for those wanting to talk about the battle and Kentucky Campaign further.

For additional information, contact Darryl Smith at ohioatperryville@yahoo.com

  1. Sounds like a great day. I will try to be there at least for half of it

    1. It would be grand to have you along. We may mix things up a bit this year as some folks want to view the battlefield from different perspectives, but I haven't had the chance to really plan anything beyond the standard tour.

    1. That is the 21st indeed, sorry I forgot the date in the post! There are several hotels in Danville, check this link for recommendations: http://ohioatperryville.blogspot.com/p/visitors-guide.html

    2. Pat, wait, no...if you wanted the more complete tour, that is April 29th (a Friday) and Saturday, April 30th. That one will cover more details. And if folks want, I can show them a couple of spots on Sunday morning as well. The tour above is my yearly tour open to everyone that lasts just a single day. The one we discussed in Fort Oglethorpe is the one at the end of this month, and the block of rooms was at the Hampton Inn, Danville. They still may give you the block room rate, but that was over on the 29th of March. The tour at the end of this month is the one Andy is bringing his Round Table group to, and that I invited a few of the Chickamauga folks to (including yourself). If you can't make this month, you may consider the May tour (the one in the post above). Sorry for the confusion! Two tours, one "closed" and the other public.

    3. Yeah, I knew you had the earlier, extended one, which I can't make. I'll probably be there May 21.

    4. Sounds like a plan. I was only going to go down for the day (I am a two hour drive) but perhaps if you wanted a bit more I can stay Saturday night and we can cover some additional details on Sunday.

    5. If you feel like staying Saturday night and doing some on Sunday I'd be cool with that, but it's up to you of course. If you do decide to stay overnight I'll bring some Church Street brews from Itasca, IL with me.

    6. There is nary a hotel room open in Danville, so I most likely will come down for the day and return home Saturday night. But I do plan on going to Danville for dinner and brews after the tour. :)
